Wedge Soft Quiz (WSQuiz) is designed to help memorize Bible verses.  It can be used by an individual working on his own, by a few friends working together around the computer, or by a teacher in front of a class.  It was originally written with Quizzers in mind but can be used by anyone who wants to memorize the Bible.

"I remember as a kid sitting in Sunday School or Vacation Bible School learning memory verses.  One technique the teacher would often use was to write the verse on the board and have the class repeat it several times.  Then the teacher would erase one or two words and the class would try to say the verse again.  The teacher kept erasing words and having us repeat the verse until the entire verse was erased." 

This technique is the basis for WSQuiz.  There are three basic modes for “hiding” words – (1) the words disappear, (2) they disappear with a box outlining the space where the word was or (3) they disappear and the first letter of the word is capitalized replacing the word.

At the moment, one must obtain the software through the internet or through someone sharing the software via a disk they personally create. The software is not available on CDROM. The software is not packaged in any form other than that available via the internet. No hard copy documentation exists. We apologize for this limitation. Perhaps we will be able to offer other media at some future date.

WedgeSoft Quiz is a quality Windows 9x utility written in C++. Words may be obscured in random or sequential order. Verses may be displayed in random or sequential order. You have three options as to how to obscure words: make them 1) totally disappear, 2) cover them with a box, 3) show only the first letter. You can start the verse with all words visible, then make words disappear. Or, start with all words obscured, except for the reference, and make the words appear until the verse comes to mind. You can take a peek at a forgotten, obscured word, or permanently change the state of a word (hidden to visible or visa-versa).

References are special. Hence, quiz yourself with only the reference visible. Then to check your memory, make individual words of the verse appear. When first displayed, see nothing but the reference, or each word hidden by a box, or the first letters of each word.

The data file is a simple text file: one line of text equals one verse screen. Hence, you can easily create individualized data files. Though very simple, there are options. Verses can be blocked together causing them to be processed as a unit. Blocks or lines may be given a book name and/or title. There is also a question/answer (pair) option. A number of words can be grouped together as a mnemonic. Verse references receive special processing. Many options, such as how to hide words, can be set from the data file.

Home School: The WSQuiz has a Question/Answer Pair option that may be used very much like flash cards. Questions can be asked in random order. In the forward direction, one steps from question to answer. But in the reverse direction, one steps back only through questions (never seeing the associated answers until going forward again). See the MultiplicationExercise.txt provided with the distribution's setup program.
